This is my version of "octopus on yo' shirt" I like to call "octopus on yo' hat!" This was one of my favorite things to make. Mainly because I got to be creative but also (unlike the clown puking a rainbow in a toilet scarf I submitted earlier) this hat is something I'll actually wear in public! haha
The lighter blue color (main hat) I crocheted using a 1/2 dble crochet stitch. The octopus was actually fairly easy to make. The tentacles start out thicker and I adjusted the stitches to make them thinner and thinner. For example the largest tentacle was made by making a long chain stitch. Then I did a few stitches in a triple crochet, the next few in a double crochet, next in a half double crochet, then a single crochet, then slip stitch and finally leaving the end as the original chain stitch. The bubbles coming out of the octopus' mouth and anchor were just a string of yarn that I tied into a loop and pulled the ends through to the back and tied. The same technique was used for the eye.
I did not use any pattern for the hat or for the octopus design.I just made everything up as I went along. My new favorite hat!
