while looking through the threadless tees for a design with any type of attire, i saw RED by Kneil Melicano and thought to myself "that's it! i can totally knit that!" so i did! the capelet i knit in a houndstooth pattern in stockinette stitch in black and red using size 6 kneedles. i followed a pattern from lionbrand.com for the capelet but because i can't be bothered to check the gauge, the pattern yielded only enough to be a back panel to the cape. so i knit 2 other panels in the same fashion making it up as i went along to make the 2 front pieces of the cape. on the 2nd panel, when i got to the top, i increased to form the closure tab and worked in a button hole near the edge. next, sewed all 3 pieces together to form the completed capelet and added the button on one side. surely you didn't think i would stop there! i knew from looking at the picture that i could use furry yarn to knit the wolf hoodie. i used 3 strands of lion brand fun fur, one in red, one chocolate, and one sandstone, and picked up and knitted the stitches around half of the top of the cape. using the 3 strands of fun fur together to replicate the look of the original design (and nature if there are any naturally red-headed wolves), i knit in stockinette stitch with the purl side facing out, to give it the extra furry texture, without using any pattern to make the hood - just eye-balling it. i then did the same with the other half. when both halves were finished i started to sew them together to make the hood. when i reached the middle of what was supposed to be the top of the head, i realized i didn't decrease as much as i should have and started having a mini-anxiety attack! all that work! get me some of my grandma's calm-down pills! aaah! but then i started playing around with it and found that i could double-back the flaps on both sides and make the wolf's ears out of the corners! brilliant! that was a happy accident if ever there was one! so i formed the ears out of the excess knitwork and stitched them in place on the hood. i also tacked in place some of the excess around the front to give it more structure rather than just let them flop. then i used pink sugar n' cream yarn to pick up and knit in stockinette stitch the gums of the wolf's mouth across the front of the hood. then i cut out the teeth from white felt and used a needle and white thread to tack that onto the gums. i then cut out the 2 razor-sharp fangs and sewed them on as well. next i picked up and knit above the fangs to make it more 3-dimensional. i then used a fine point sharpie to add to the wolf's dental work. then i picked up and knitted about 5 inches across the mid-top of the hood to form the muzzle. i worked the purl side facing out to blend in with the rest of the hood. next i quick knitted a nose in the black yarn by decreasing every row to make a triangle. stitched that on and extended the black down to the edge of it's mouth to make the muzzle. then i stitched the entire flap onto the hood and stuffed it with cotton filler. next i stitched on some googly eyes in the proper position and then knit 2 small "eyebrows" i guess you would call them in the tri-colored fun fur. then i positioned the eyebrows as menacingly as possible and stitched them in placed. and that was it! RED completed!
i started this project the day after i finished my 1st threadknits entry, which was on november 30. so it took a reeeeally long time! lucky for that deadline extension eh?! working 10-hour shifts 6 days a week at my job, i was able to work on this knitting on average about 3-4 hours a night and usually most of my days off. i finished it on february 23, but we've had terrible weather all week and was only able to go out to take the pictures in the woods today (february 28!). p.s. thanks to chris over here for the use of his davey crockett disneyworld replica gun and also for polishing up his photography skills at the 11th hour :)

while looking through the threadless tees for a design with any type of attire, i saw RED by Kneil Melicano and thought to myself "that's it! i can totally knit that!" so i did! the capelet i knit in a houndstooth pattern in stockinette stitch in black and red using size 6 kneedles. i followed a pattern from lionbrand.com for the capelet but because i can't be bothered to check the gauge, the pattern yielded only enough to be a back panel to the cape. so i knit 2 other panels in the same fashion making it up as i went along to make the 2 front pieces of the cape. on the 2nd panel, when i got to the top, i increased to form the closure tab and worked in a button hole near the edge. next, sewed all 3 pieces together to form the completed capelet and added the button on one side. surely you didn't think i would stop there! i knew from looking at the picture that i could use furry yarn to knit the wolf hoodie. i used 3 strands of lion brand fun fur, one in red, one chocolate, and one sandstone, and picked up and knitted the stitches around half of the top of the cape. using the 3 strands of fun fur together to replicate the look of the original design (and nature if there are any naturally red-headed wolves), i knit in stockinette stitch with the purl side facing out, to give it the extra furry texture, without using any pattern to make the hood - just eye-balling it. i then did the same with the other half. when both halves were finished i started to sew them together to make the hood. when i reached the middle of what was supposed to be the top of the head, i realized i didn't decrease as much as i should have and started having a mini-anxiety attack! all that work! get me some of my grandma's calm-down pills! aaah! but then i started playing around with it and found that i could double-back the flaps on both sides and make the wolf's ears out of the corners! brilliant! that was a happy accident if ever there was one! so i formed the ears out of the excess knitwork and stitched them in place on the hood. i also tacked in place some of the excess around the front to give it more structure rather than just let them flop. then i used pink sugar n' cream yarn to pick up and knit in stockinette stitch the gums of the wolf's mouth across the front of the hood. then i cut out the teeth from white felt and used a needle and white thread to tack that onto the gums. i then cut out the 2 razor-sharp fangs and sewed them on as well. next i picked up and knit above the fangs to make it more 3-dimensional. i then used a fine point sharpie to add to the wolf's dental work. then i picked up and knitted about 5 inches across the mid-top of the hood to form the muzzle. i worked the purl side facing out to blend in with the rest of the hood. next i quick knitted a nose in the black yarn by decreasing every row to make a triangle. stitched that on and extended the black down to the edge of it's mouth to make the muzzle. then i stitched the entire flap onto the hood and stuffed it with cotton filler. next i stitched on some googly eyes in the proper position and then knit 2 small "eyebrows" i guess you would call them in the tri-colored fun fur. then i positioned the eyebrows as menacingly as possible and stitched them in placed. and that was it! RED completed!
i started this project the day after i finished my 1st threadknits entry, which was on november 30. so it took a reeeeally long time! lucky for that deadline extension eh?! working 10-hour shifts 6 days a week at my job, i was able to work on this knitting on average about 3-4 hours a night and usually most of my days off. i finished it on february 23, but we've had terrible weather all week and was only able to go out to take the pictures in the woods today (february 28!). p.s. thanks to chris over here for the use of his davey crockett disneyworld replica gun and also for polishing up his photography skills at the 11th hour :)

while looking through the threadless tees for a design with any type of attire, i saw RED by Kneil Melicano and thought to myself "that's it! i can totally knit that!" so i did! the capelet i knit in a houndstooth pattern in stockinette stitch in black and red using size 6 kneedles. i followed a pattern from lionbrand.com for the capelet but because i can't be bothered to check the gauge, the pattern yielded only enough to be a back panel to the cape. so i knit 2 other panels in the same fashion making it up as i went along to make the 2 front pieces of the cape. on the 2nd panel, when i got to the top, i increased to form the closure tab and worked in a button hole near the edge. next, sewed all 3 pieces together to form the completed capelet and added the button on one side. surely you didn't think i would stop there! i knew from looking at the picture that i could use furry yarn to knit the wolf hoodie. i used 3 strands of lion brand fun fur, one in red, one chocolate, and one sandstone, and picked up and knitted the stitches around half of the top of the cape. using the 3 strands of fun fur together to replicate the look of the original design (and nature if there are any naturally red-headed wolves), i knit in stockinette stitch with the purl side facing out, to give it the extra furry texture, without using any pattern to make the hood - just eye-balling it. i then did the same with the other half. when both halves were finished i started to sew them together to make the hood. when i reached the middle of what was supposed to be the top of the head, i realized i didn't decrease as much as i should have and started having a mini-anxiety attack! all that work! get me some of my grandma's calm-down pills! aaah! but then i started playing around with it and found that i could double-back the flaps on both sides and make the wolf's ears out of the corners! brilliant! that was a happy accident if ever there was one! so i formed the ears out of the excess knitwork and stitched them in place on the hood. i also tacked in place some of the excess around the front to give it more structure rather than just let them flop. then i used pink sugar n' cream yarn to pick up and knit in stockinette stitch the gums of the wolf's mouth across the front of the hood. then i cut out the teeth from white felt and used a needle and white thread to tack that onto the gums. i then cut out the 2 razor-sharp fangs and sewed them on as well. next i picked up and knit above the fangs to make it more 3-dimensional. i then used a fine point sharpie to add to the wolf's dental work. then i picked up and knitted about 5 inches across the mid-top of the hood to form the muzzle. i worked the purl side facing out to blend in with the rest of the hood. next i quick knitted a nose in the black yarn by decreasing every row to make a triangle. stitched that on and extended the black down to the edge of it's mouth to make the muzzle. then i stitched the entire flap onto the hood and stuffed it with cotton filler. next i stitched on some googly eyes in the proper position and then knit 2 small "eyebrows" i guess you would call them in the tri-colored fun fur. then i positioned the eyebrows as menacingly as possible and stitched them in placed. and that was it!

RED completed!
i started this project the day after i finished my 1st threadknits entry, which was on november 30. so it took a reeeeally long time! lucky for that deadline extension eh?! working 10-hour shifts 6 days a week at my job, i was able to work on this knitting on average about 3-4 hours a night and usually most of my days off. i finished it on february 23, but we've had terrible weather all week and was only able to go out to take the pictures in the woods today (february 28!). p.s. thanks to chris over here for the use of his davey crockett disneyworld replica gun and also for polishing up his photography skills at the 11th hour :)

while looking through the threadless tees for a design with any type of attire, i saw RED by Kneil Melicano and thought to myself "that's it! i can totally knit that!" so i did! the capelet i knit in a houndstooth pattern in stockinette stitch in black and red using size 6 kneedles. i followed a pattern from lionbrand.com for the capelet but because i can't be bothered to check the gauge, the pattern yielded only enough to be a back panel to the cape. so i knit 2 other panels in the same fashion making it up as i went along to make the 2 front pieces of the cape. on the 2nd panel, when i got to the top, i increased to form the closure tab and worked in a button hole near the edge. next, sewed all 3 pieces together to form the completed capelet and added the button on one side. surely you didn't think i would stop there! i knew from looking at the picture that i could use furry yarn to knit the wolf hoodie. i used 3 strands of lion brand fun fur, one in red, one chocolate, and one sandstone, and picked up and knitted the stitches around half of the top of the cape. using the 3 strands of fun fur together to replicate the look of the original design (and nature if there are any naturally red-headed wolves), i knit in stockinette stitch with the purl side facing out, to give it the extra furry texture, without using any pattern to make the hood - just eye-balling it. i then did the same with the other half. when both halves were finished i started to sew them together to make the hood. when i reached the middle of what was supposed to be the top of the head, i realized i didn't decrease as much as i should have and started having a mini-anxiety attack! all that work! get me some of my grandma's calm-down pills! aaah! but then i started playing around with it and found that i could double-back the flaps on both sides and make the wolf's ears out of the corners! brilliant! that was a happy accident if ever there was one! so i formed the ears out of the excess knitwork and stitched them in place on the hood. i also tacked in place some of the excess around the front to give it more structure rather than just let them flop. then i used pink sugar n' cream yarn to pick up and knit in stockinette stitch the gums of the wolf's mouth across the front of the hood. then i cut out the teeth from white felt and used a needle and white thread to tack that onto the gums. i then cut out the 2 razor-sharp fangs and sewed them on as well. next i picked up and knit above the fangs to make it more 3-dimensional. i then used a fine point sharpie to add to the wolf's dental work. then i picked up and knitted about 5 inches across the mid-top of the hood to form the muzzle. i worked the purl side facing out to blend in with the rest of the hood. next i quick knitted a nose in the black yarn by decreasing every row to make a triangle. stitched that on and extended the black down to the edge of it's mouth to make the muzzle. then i stitched the entire flap onto the hood and stuffed it with cotton filler. next i stitched on some googly eyes in the proper position and then knit 2 small "eyebrows" i guess you would call them in the tri-colored fun fur. then i positioned the eyebrows as menacingly as possible and stitched them in placed. and that was it!
